The problem
Why a root tint can't get you there
Going grey isn't a colour choice. It's a change of strategy.
We see the shift in our chairs every week. The question used to be "can you cover this?" Now it's "can you get me out of this?"
Most salons answer with the tool they already use: a softer tint at the roots, perhaps a few highlights on top. That blurs this month's regrowth. It does nothing about the years of permanent colour sitting on your lengths, which won't fade to grey on its own and can't be lifted by putting more tint on top.
So you end up in the worst version of going grey. A stripe of real grey at the root, a band of old colour below it, and twelve to eighteen months of growing it out while it looks like a mistake. Plenty of people give up around month four and book the tint again.

The Grey Blueprint
A consultation built on our Colour Blueprint. We map how much grey you have and where, go through your colour history, strand test your lengths and patch test your skin at least 48 hours before any colour. You leave with a written plan and an honest timeline.
The Break
One long session with a senior colourist. Fine highlights lift your coloured lengths towards your natural grey, lowlights keep depth, bond protection runs throughout and a gloss ties it together. The hard line disappears.
The Refine
Six to ten weeks later, more natural grey has come through. We adjust placement around it, retone, and start shaping the cut to take the old colour off faster.
The Release
Over the following months, progressive trims remove the last of the old pigment. Each visit, you need us a little less.
Then, the Silver Gloss
Grey hair picks up yellow from UV, heat and London's hard water. A gloss every six to eight weeks keeps it cool, bright and expensive-looking. That is the maintenance, and it is far lighter than a root tint every month.

What is a grey transition?
A planned move from coloured hair to your natural grey, done over a few sessions so there is never a hard regrowth line. At Gusto it runs in four phases: The Grey Blueprint, The Break, The Refine and The Release.
How long does going grey take?
The main colour work takes two sessions six to ten weeks apart. Fully growing out old colour depends on length, since hair grows roughly a centimetre a month, but the hair looks deliberate from the first session.

Is grey blending the same as a root tint?
